Depends on the car, the make, the age, usage and what you do with the car.. I take it you are talking about everyday use?

Generally a car holds 5-6 quarts, some a little less, high performance autos a bit more. A car really should not be burning any more than a quart of oil between 3,000 mile changes. Especially if the car is relatively new and you care for your car regularly. Again, it depends on some of the things I mentioned above.

I am sure there is a mechanic on here who can be more precise.
